Examination of plastics, rubbers and products from them

1 1 1 1 1 Rating 0.00 (0 Votes)

This examination is carried out in order to extract all possible information from the composition of polymeric materials, rubbers and products from them. The result of such an examination directly depends on the mechanism of trace formation and the nature of the object.

The examination of plastics, rubbers and products made from them is carried out, as a rule, with the aim of detecting microparticles of various origins on specific objects that can become material evidence at a trial. Also, in the course of the examination of plastics, rubbers and products from them, if necessary, the type and group of the studied material of plastics and rubbers, the place of their manufacture, are determined.

Considering how many such precedents there are, it is worth considering possible cases of incomplete determination of object ownership. The broadest concept is the genus, which is the easiest to define. Any object made of rubber or plastic is subdivided into several types, for example, a plastic film can be made of high, medium and low pressure polyethylene.

Group affiliation is a narrower concept that allows you to break down plastics and rubbers into specific groups that differ from each other in certain characteristics.

A specialist conducting an examination of plastics, rubbers and products from them requires high qualifications and professionalism, as well as responsibility and comprehensive expert training in this particular area.

Knowledge of the specific properties of polymers will allow the expert to draw the necessary conclusions about the materials under study. There are cases when the examination of plastics, rubbers and products from them is carried out within the framework of other expert studies, for example, commodity examination.

Various packaging, parts of technical equipment, cables and insulating tapes, as well as buttons, shoes and bijouterie can become the objects of examination of plastics, rubbers and products from them.

Research is carried out through chemical analysis, which helps in establishing the nature of the polymer. Further, tests for combustion, thermal tests are carried out, if necessary, the solubility coefficient of the test substance is determined. The method of infrared spectroscopy is becoming more and more popular. All of these methods require serious professional training from the expert.

Questions of examination of plastics, rubber and products from them:

  • does this substance belong to the group of polymers?
  • To which group, genus, type or species does this substance belong?
  • what external influence was this substance subjected to?
  • whether this substance is a polymeric material, and to what type, type and brand of polymers it can be attributed;
  • for what purposes this material was used;
  • whether the marks on the asphalt, on the victim's clothes are rubber particles;
  • determine the type, type and brand of this rubber;
  • whether the object under study was exposed to external influences;
  • what kind of impact was;
  • whether the item made of rubber or plastic has been exposed to high temperatures;
  • what is the reason for the change in the original properties of rubber and plastic products.

There are also a number of identification questions that are posed to the expert:

  • whether the compared materials have a common group, generic affiliation;
  • whether the samples of polymeric materials under study have the same nature of origin;
  • do they have a common source of origin and the same manufacturing technology;
  • whether the fragments submitted for examination are parts of one object.

Examination of plastics, rubbers and products made from them is of two types - judicial and extrajudicial. The first is carried out on the basis of a court decision or in the interests of an ongoing investigation. This happens when, when considering an arbitration, criminal or civil case, there are moments that require an examination of plastics, rubbers and products from them. The resulting expert opinion will have evidentiary value in the trial.

Extrajudicial examination of plastics, rubbers and products made from them is carried out after the conclusion of an agreement between the interested person (client) and an expert organization engaged in this kind of research. The results obtained after the extrajudicial examination of plastics, rubber and products from them are used to resolve various kinds of controversial situations that have not yet been submitted to the court.
