AVIII-HD-800-system Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR spectroscopy) is a spectroscopic method for identifying and studying chemical objects based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

The most important for chemistry and practical applications are proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (PMR spectroscopy) and carbon-13 NMR spectroscopy (13 C NMR spectroscopy).

Similar to infrared spectroscopy, NMR reveals information about the molecular structure of chemicals. However, it provides more complete information than IS, allowing one to study dynamic processes in a sample - to determine the rate constants of chemical reactions, the value of energy barriers to intramolecular rotation. These features make NMR spectroscopy a convenient tool both in theoretical organic chemistry and for the analysis of biological objects.

Today, NMR spectroscopy allows the identification of a compound with less than 1 mg of a substance. The sample is dissolved in a deuterated solvent, the ampoule is placed in an NMR spectrometer, after a short (for simple compounds about 30 seconds) signal accumulation, a spectrum is obtained, where the position of the peaks (excitation field frequency) of individual protons (for PMR - proton magnetic resonance) characterizing the compound. The resonant frequency, absorption energy and intensity of the emitted signal are proportional to the strength of the magnetic field.
