This expertise includes the study of fuels and lubricants, flammable liquids, all types of fuel, including gasoline, diesel fuel, diesel fuel, as well as machine oils, oil and petroleum products.
The objects of expertise include types of petroleum products:
- all types of diesel fuel;
- all types of gasoline;
- all types of kerosene;
- all brands and types of mineral and synthetic motor oils;
- all types of oil
The examination of gasoline, diesel fuel, oil products and fuels and lubricants can be carried out for completely different purposes, for example, to establish the type of substance or product, as well as its generic and group affiliation.
The examination is carried out with the identification of the composition, group and generic affiliation, the level of quality in accordance with the standard and other services required by the client.
There is a list of general, simple questions that are asked to experts conducting research on gasoline, diesel fuel, petroleum products and fuels and lubricants:
- determination of the group and brand to which the investigated material or substance should be attributed;
- for the lubricant - whether it has already been in operation. If so, what kind of pollution it has;
- in relation to fuel and gasoline - the degree of compliance of the technology of its manufacture with those standards that are adopted in this regard;
- the degree of compliance of the fuel or oil product with the composition standards declared for this brand;
- the extent to which this fuel or lubricant is capable of causing damage to engines or mechanical components, or in any way disrupting the operation of engines or mechanical components.
The list of questions that will help to resolve the examination of gasoline, diesel fuel, oil products and fuels and lubricants:
- whether or not the substance submitted for research is a petroleum product or a fuel and lubricant. If the answer is yes, then what group it belongs to, what is its brand and main purpose;
- to find out whether the substance submitted for examination belongs to flammable liquids, what is its name, brand;
- find out whether or not this sample of material was in operation. If the answer is yes, determine what kind of impurities or impurities it contains;
- to establish whether or not there are traces of oil products, fuels and lubricants or flammable liquids on the sample provided for research. Determine their brand, establish the group to which they belong and find out their main purpose;
- find out whether the sample provided for research and the sample taken for comparison have a common origin;
- establish the brand of the provided gasoline sample;
- determine the chemical composition of gasoline and establish the presence of any impurities in it (diesel fuel, kerosene).
In different cases, different information is required from the examination, which is stated in accordance with the questions that experts must answer, as in all other types of examinations. These questions vary, but among them are the most frequently asked ones, to which experts most often have to look for an answer:
- first of all, it is determined whether the presented substance is a petroleum product;
- if the presented substance is still a petroleum product, then the group and brand of the substance, as well as its purpose, are determined;
- in the event that the substance does not belong to petroleum products, then it is checked whether it is a fuel or a flammable liquid, as well as whether it is a combustible and lubricating material (POL). As in the case of petroleum products, the group of the substance, its brand and purpose are determined;
- during the examination of fuels and lubricants, it is determined whether it is currently used in broad masses;
- in any of the above substances, it is necessary to detect whether there are impurities of harmful substances;
- when comparing a fuel sample with a standard, it is first checked whether these two substances have a common origin;
- it is also determined to which brand and group the sample of fuel belongs, and whether this brand and group corresponds to those indicated in the characteristics of the standard;
- the fuel should also be checked for the presence of impurities of other petroleum products.
Sample preparation
Some problems arise when providing elements of a substance for examination, since most of the substances undergoing this examination are fluid. In order to preserve the substance to be examined, it is hermetically sealed in a film together with the object on which it is located. This happens even if the object of the examination is fuel that is already in a vessel - in this case, the entire vessel is packed in a film.
In the event that fuel, oil products or other substances that fit the category of this examination were found not on a hard surface, but, for example, on sand or soil, then their samples are collected with gauze swabs, which are also suitably packed.
If you need to check the quality of gasoline, diesel or any other fuel, then you need at least 100 milliliters of substance in a glass container, which is hermetically and reliably closed. In such cases, any sample sent to an expert laboratory for quality control should be provided with the best possible description of the characteristics of the substance known to the customer.
In addition to describing the characteristics, a control sample of this fuel or other substance is also required, to which all the necessary characteristics, properties and components are usually attached.
